Jazz Winnipeg is kicking off in days, and besides my gig on Friday, June 27, there's a bunch of highly recommended acts coming to town, including Alice Russell, Stars, and Pink Martini. Also, Ivana Santilli will be closing out the evening the same night and venue I'm playing (Old Market Square stage) and I'll be speaking with her about her third solo album TO.NY. for a feature in Uptown Magazine's June 26 issue.

The New Music West Festival marked my first appearance outside of the Winnipeg market (live and in person). It was a great experience, made possible in no small part by the folks at MARIA, and my friends and Maximum Music Group in Vancouver. Something tells me more national dates will be on the horizon this calender year... Stay tuned.

NEW DATES!
Back on the scene, Athavale will be performing in Vancouver at the New Music West festival in May, and has been confirmed for the Winnipeg Jazz Festival in June, and the Winnipeg Downtown Biz’s Out-For-Lunch Concert Series in July. Check the shows section for all the coordinates!

Thanks to the producers of CBC Radio’s nationally-broadcast program, Tonic, who featured Athavale’s “Devoted” in a three-song set of Canadian ‘blue-eyed soul’ artists to watch out for. (trivia fact: Erik Athavale’s eyes are actually a combination of green and hazel).

Erik Athavale will be taking a break from performing for the next few months, to focus all of his time and attention to his upcoming wedding (March 15, 2008). Athavale will resume with more live dates this summer.

After a hiatus, Athavale performed in an unplugged-style format to students at both Red River College campuses in Winnipeg. On January 28, Athavale performed at the Princess Street Campus, and the next day, at the Notre Dame campus. Thanks to all who attended!
